A high honour was awarded to the Kemptville Rotary Club recently when District Governor Bill Gray, seen here in centre, presented Rotary International’s Significant Achievement Award to club president Rob Horning (left) and past-president Jennifer Franssen. The award for a significant contribution to building local community and meeting its needs was given in recognition of the club’s role as “Official Champion” of the Kemptville Youth Centre.  This partnering arrangement began with the club making it possible for the Centre to purchase it’s current building on Oxford Street, volunteer help with renovations, ongoing involvement by Rotarians in its activities and an annual donation of $2500.  Franssen was the key player in developing this long-term arrangement.  Only one “Significant Achievement Award” is given per Rotary district annually.  Our local club is one of 67 in District 7040, which covers Nunavut, Eastern Ontario, Western Québec and Northern New York State.

Gray also took the opportunity to commend the club on exceeding its targets in donating over $5500 to Rotary International’s Annual Programmes Fund (over $220 per member) and over $4500 to PolioPlus, Rotary’s pledge to eradicate polio worldwide (over $185 per member).  The club now ranks fifth in the district for programmes giving and fourth for polio.
